Working End
The working end is, simply, the end of the rope or webbing being used to tie the knot.

The standing end of rope or webbing is everything else that is knot being used to tie a knot.

A bight is a curved, ā€œUā€ shaped section of rope

Loop
A loop is any circle created by passing the working end over itself. A loop can also be created by giving a bight a 180 degree twist.

The foundation knot is the most basic knot of the Figure 8 family. It is sometimes called the stopper knot, when used at the bottom of the rappelling line.
